Don't Call Them Cheesy
If there is one thing almost everyone knew about me in my pre-vegan life, it was that I LOVED cheese. Now, of course, I know better and can't even stand the thought of eating real cheese. But, when I first started my vegan journey and tell you that I fought the cheese cravings HARD, I’m not exaggerating. With that being said, my first mission as a newly enlightened, bad-ass vegan, was to find some vegan cheese and find it fast! It was a loooong, sad, and gross journey.
We were buying every brand we could get our hands on, which wasn’t saying much, since we had no clue where to find the stuff. We found 3 categories of Vcheese:
Disgusting
Good, just for the fact that it doesn’t make us gag
Very confusing packaging that we discovered WASN’T vegan, after we already paid for it and brought it home.
Can you sense the frustration? Well, don’t feel too bad for me...there was light at the end of that dark, lonely and gross tunnel! We started finding brand after brand of not only category 2 qualifying cheese, but amazing tasting cheese! Stuff that replaced my cravings, and that was something to seriously feel good about. Here are our favorites!
For me, small increments of this stuff is best, but it’s EASY. You boil some pasta, open the packet, and pour it on, that’s it. It doesn’t need to be refrigerated. My favorite way to enjoy it is to add a little garlic, lemon, salt and pepper (seriously, you only need a little).
You have seen this in our review of the New Jersey Veg Fest, and it is worth mentioning again! Like I said previously, it’s not really cheesy tasting, but it is a great sauce to put over pasta or veggies. It’s slightly sweet with the perfect consistency to kick any cheese craving.
Big Fuddha almost fell over when she tasted these at Veg Fest! They start in a powder and just require water and a microwave (or stovetop). Warm delicious goodness is SO easy to bring into your life with this stuff. This is the dipping sauce to use at all your future parties. Grab some tortillas or soft pretzels and go to town! It’s so good that we’ve started this habit of eating it with a spoon a few times before putting it away.
This one is our first love. We have given slices of this Vcheese to as many people as we could and actively look for reasons to bring it up in conversation! It’s good enough to be eaten on it’s own (my preference), but Big Fuddha loves to melt it onto a vegan burger...that’s right, MELT! It’s the Vcheese to make all your dreams come true and definitely worth the buy if you see it in the store.
Wow, that was cheesy! Heh...see what I did there?...I hope you enjoy every second of your NEW Vcheese adventure with these great options. If you’ve found any that inspire you like I have been, please stop over in the forum and let us know so we can try it too! Happy Cheezin!
